Orphanage Visit 2009

On 22/11/2009, a dreary rainy morning, 2 members of the MCSC committee embarked on a little trip to an orphanage located in Volzhski. The purpose of this visit was to deliver the donations collected from the kind students of our university to the needy children. Most of the donated items were clothes, and there were also a few backpacks.

The students who helped load the stuff into the mashrutka, and the students who went.
From left : MCSC president Chai Chan Sin, MCSC 3rd year batch representative Yap Teck Chong, Jason Lai, Khor Chee Hai and MCSC 2nd year batch representative Khor Leet Liang.

The journey to the orphanage took around 40 minutes or so via mashrut. And an extra 10 minutes because we lost our way for a bit (it was out first time going via mashrut after all).

Without further ado, I present - the orphanage

The orphanage was located in the middle of a few apartment buildings. Which kind of explains why it was so hard to find. It was called "Dom Miloserdiya" in Russian. Which roughly translates to "House of Solace".

Upon arrival, we quickly unloaded the stuff from the mashrut and carried them into the mashrut. I can't exactly put into words how much stuff we had collected, and thus:

The curators of the orphanage were more than happy to receive us. They even called the children out from the rooms where they had been either having classes or Sunday school to come greet us, look at the things we brought, and take photos with us!
A picture of the children

They were all smiles, thanks to everyone who donated.
Obligatory : A photo of the members and the children!

Photo credits go to our president Chai Chan Sin and a shoutout of thanks to all who donated, and those who helped in one way or other!

Encouraging Turnout at Mega Sale

A "Mega Sale" which had taken months of preparation and planning was successfully carried out on Sunday, 27 September 2009 from 10.30am - 12.30pm in Hiroshima hall.

The items for sale are mostly (winter) clothing. Some of the items were donated by seniors who have graduated and agreed to let us sell and manage or use the money from the sale as we deem appropriate. MCSC already has plans to use part of the (profit) money for charity (e.g. orphanage). MCSC members also have the opportunity to sell their belongings in this event.

All items must go

Light hearted moments between a persuasive seller and an obstinate buyer

New students trying out the winter clothing

The turnout and response was very encouraging indeed, especially from the new students who have just arrived in Volgograd. They must be terrified of the notorious Russian winter or perhaps the bargains are too good to resist. We look forward to having more of such mutually beneficial events in the future.

TC Yap would like to take this opportunity to thank Hao, Tih Shyang, Keat Leong, Wan Jool, Tien Yaa, Janice, Ethan, Chee Hai, Wen Siong, Yee Bee, Yon Quan, Nicole Thang, Jinn Shian, Kelvin, Doris, Chai and Chai Way for making this event a success.

Logo and Description

Yin Yang
The well-known Chinese Yin Yang symbol as an important part of traditional Chinese culture. Three basic themes underlie nearly all deployments of the concept in Chinese Yin Yang symbol:

(1) Yin Yang as the coherent fabric of nature and mind, exhibited in all existence.

(2) Yin Yang as jiao (interaction) between the waxing and waning of the cosmic and human realms.

(3) Yin Yang as a process of harmonization ensuring a constant, dynamic balance of all things.

Yin Yang is emblematic of valuational equality rooted in the unified, dynamic, and harmonized structure of the cosmos. As such, it has served as a heuristic mechanism for formulating a coherent view of the world throughout Chinese intellectual and religious history.

Colour Description
Red colour symbolizes good luck and happiness, faith, communication.
Red also signifies the color of the sun: a symbol of energy, radiating its vitalizing life-force into human beings.

About MCSC

MALAYSIAN CHINESE STUDENTS COMMUNITY
VOLGOGRAD STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

INTRODUCTION

The idea of Malaysian Chinese Students Community establishment was first suggested by Melvin Chung Hsien Liang, a 5th course student in November 2008, who thought there was a need to form a proper student organization in order to make the Chinese New Year Celebration 2009 a successful one, besides serving as an exemplary organization.

Having been proposed this idea, the Malaysian Chinese students showed much interest and support. Hence our Chinese New Year Celebration 2009 committee, lead by Melvin Chung approached the university for approval to form our very own Malaysian Chinese Students Community. Finally, the Malaysian Chinese Students Community was founded on 19 March 2009.

OBJECTIVES AND AIMS
  1. For the welfare of all Malaysian as a problem solving body.
  2. To improve the relationship and unity among all Malaysian.
  3. To cultivate leadership quality and train students to organize further events.
  4. To focus on academic performance of fellow students.
  5. To promote and introduce Chinese culture and tradition to other students.
  6. To give students an opportunity to participate in healthy activities in their free time.
